A legacy in motion
The Henry Charles Commonwealth Cup (HCCC) is a Commonwealth-endorsed international youth football tournament and positive youth-development programme. Conceived during the Commonwealth Year of Youth in 2023, it was created to honour the life and work of Dr. Henry Wallace Charles — the Saint Lucian pioneer known across the Commonwealth as the “Godfather of Youth Development” — and to carry his belief in unity through action to a new generation.
From pilot to global stage
The Cup began as a proof of concept in Zambia, delivered with Tackle Africa, blending competitive youth football with community development, public-health services and education-driven engagement. That pilot proved the model: football as a doorway to mentorship, wellbeing and opportunity.
On 12 October 2024, the HCCC launched globally — staged simultaneously in Saint Lucia and the United Kingdom. In Gros Islet, grassroots teams played friendly matches at the National Indoor Court, Beausejour, while in South East London an 11-a-side match kicked off at Bromley Football Club, linked live to the Saint Lucia celebrations. Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, endorsed the tournament and invited Castries East — the community where Dr. Charles grew up — to take part.

A Commonwealth-wide movement
Framed to reach across all 56 Commonwealth member states, the Cup has already drawn participation from Saint Lucia, Zambia, the United Kingdom, Trinidad & Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Australia, India and Pakistan — and continues to grow.

Looking ahead
The Cup continues to travel — across Saint Lucia, the UK and Commonwealth states through 2025 — and the Henry Charles Foundation Cup comes to Glasgow on Sunday 2 August 2026, a free family football festival at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, timed alongside the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
